Darren attended the University of Essex where he read law. At the University of Essex, Darren served on the executive committee of the law society for three years and was also fortunate enough to have been elected to the positions of law convenor, chairman of the Students' Union Council as well as being a student tutor in his final year.

After graduation, Darren read for the Bar at the Inns of Court School of Law, City University, London, and was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn in July 2003. His primary areas of law include professional negligence, civil and commercial litigation and insurance law; however, Darren has a keen interest in human rights and discrimination matters as well as diversity and equality issues generally, but especially within the legal profession.

Outside of Darren's professional life he has held various voluntary roles as a school governor for 5 years, was the former chairman of the Dominica Overseas Nationals Association (D.O.N.A.) for 2 years and the former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dominica Overseas Nationals Association's Aid Dominica Development Trust for 8 years. Darren enjoys running and cycling; listening to music; wine; making wise investments and travel writing.
